Three Bench Services

Services Shaped Around What Mechanical Watches Actually Need

Each service at Durianwor Bench has a defined scope, a clear process, and a price that reflects what is involved. Nothing is bundled to inflate value — and nothing is omitted to reduce cost.

How the Studio Approaches Each Service

Every piece that enters the studio is received with the same basic intake procedure regardless of which service has been requested. The condition of the piece is noted, and any observations made before work begins are recorded. This creates a baseline that makes the work more reliable and more defensible.

The studio does not work at high volume. Intake is limited so that each service receives proper time — not the minimum time the price allows, but the time the piece actually requires. If that time turns out to be more than expected, the owner is informed before the schedule extends.

Parts sourcing, when required, follows a stated policy: original manufacturer parts are preferred where available and period-appropriate. Modern equivalents are used only with the owner's knowledge. No substitution is made silently.

The studio works with mechanical movements only — manual-wind and automatic. Quartz movements, digital modules, and battery replacements are outside its scope. Owners who are unsure whether their piece qualifies are welcome to enquire before making the journey.

Wheel train inspection
Service 01

Wheel Train Inspection and Cleaning

A bench service focused on the gear train of a mechanical movement, intended for pieces that have shown irregular running or reduced amplitude. The studio inspects each wheel and pinion under magnification for tooth wear, pivot condition, and contamination. Components are then cleaned in a multi-stage bath, pivots are lubricated with calibre-appropriate oils, and the train is reassembled with timing verification on the calibration stand.

The service is often selected by owners who wish to address train-specific issues without committing to a full overhaul. When broader fatigue is observed during inspection, the studio will discuss a more comprehensive approach before proceeding.

What This Service Includes

  • Magnification-level review of each wheel and pinion
  • Tooth wear and pivot condition assessment
  • Multi-stage component cleaning bath
  • Calibre-appropriate pivot lubrication
  • Calibration stand timing verification
  • Written service record returned with piece

Service 02

Bracelet Length Reduction and Link Storage

A short bench service intended to size a bracelet to the owner's wrist while preserving any removed links in a small archival envelope for future use. The studio measures the wrist, removes links symmetrically where the bracelet construction allows, confirms comfortable seating of the clasp, refits spring bars, and packages the removed links with a written note identifying the bracelet and the date of work.

The service is suitable for owners who anticipate that future wrist changes or a transfer of the piece to a family member may benefit from the retention of original links. The archival envelope and documentation are returned with the piece.

What This Service Includes

  • Wrist measurement and link count assessment
  • Symmetric removal where bracelet construction allows
  • Clasp seating confirmation on the wrist
  • Spring bar refit and inspection
  • Archival envelope with written label for removed links

Watch History Conversation Session

An informational session in which an owner discusses with the studio the publicly available history of a particular reference, calibre family, or brand era. The studio shares its understanding of the piece's place in horological history, references publicly available literature, and answers the owner's questions in conversation.

The session does not constitute appraisal, authentication, or valuation. It is intended for owners who wish to know more about the piece they hold and how it fits into a broader context — without the pressure of a retail environment or the formality of an expert report.

What This Session Includes

  • Discussion of reference or calibre family background
  • Brand era context drawn from published literature
  • Owner's questions addressed in open conversation
  • Distinction between documented fact and interpretation
  • Not an appraisal, authentication, or valuation

Choosing the Right Service

Each service addresses a distinct need. Use this guide to identify which is most relevant to your situation.

My Situation Wheel Train Service Bracelet Sizing History Session

Piece to be transferred to another person
Curious about a reference's production history
Wish to understand calibre family context
Piece not running at all Discuss scope first

Shared Standards Across All Services

These apply to every piece the studio receives, regardless of which service was requested.

Owner Consent Before Scope Expansion

Work beyond what was agreed does not begin without a conversation. This applies even when the additional work is clearly advisable.

Photographic Intake Record

Each piece is photographed on receipt. This documents its condition before any work begins and is retained in the studio's records.

Written Notes Returned with Piece

Every piece is returned with written documentation of what was done, what was observed, and — for wheel train services — what the calibration stand readings showed.

Owner Data Handled Discreetly

Contact and intake information is retained only for service communication and is not shared with third parties. See the studio's privacy policy for details.

Postal Intake Available

Owners outside Kuala Lumpur may send pieces by post. Packing guidance and preferred carrier information are shared on enquiry.

No Quartz Movements

The studio works with mechanical movements only. Owners with quartz pieces are advised to contact other service providers and the studio can suggest appropriate referrals.

Service Pricing

Pricing is fixed per service. No hidden charges for documentation, link storage, or calibration stand use — these are included as standard.
